Dibrugarh: Thousands of devotees thronged the banks of the Brahmaputra in Dibrugarh on Tuesday to celebrate Chhath Puja, offering prayers to the Sun God in a beautiful display of faith and devotion.Gathering at seven designated ghats across the city -- Kachari ghat, Paltan Bazar ghat, Tinkunia ghat, Maijan ghat, Phoolbagan Koila ghat, Mohanaghat and Panchali ghat -- the devotees stood in knee-deep water during sunrise, offering prayers to the Sun God.Women devotees, in their traditional Chhat attire, formed the majority of the participants, carrying bamboo baskets filled with fruits and other food items as offerings. "This festival connects us to our roots and strengthens our faith. Standing in the holy waters of the Brahmaputra and offering arghya to the Sun God fills our heart with peace and devotion," said Sunita Devi, a devotee, who had been strictly observing the fast associated with the Puja.In light of the heightened water levels of the Brahmaputra, the district administration had implemented several key safety and security measures. While the ghats were brightly lluminated to ensure visibility, local police and disaster management teams were deployed strategically to monitor proceedings and ensure safety of the devotees."We have made extensive arrangements to ensure that devotees can perform their rituals safely. Given the water levels, we have taken extra precaution and have stationed rescue teams across all the ghats," mayor Saikat Patra said.The administration also collaborated closely with local Chhath Puja committees to provide essential amenities, including temporary shelters, medical aid stations and clean drinking water facilities for the devotees, many of whom travelled from neighbouring areas to participate in the celebrations.The four-day festival, which began with the ritual of Nahay Khay, concluded with the final arghya being offered to the rising sun on Tuesday morning, marking the end of Chhath Puja celebrations in Dibrugarh."Chhath Puja in Dibrugarh has grown significantly over the years.
