Jaipur: Two people were killed and six injured when a bus carrying 65 passengers, mostly labourers from Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh, caught fire after coming into contact with an 11 kV overhead power line in Todi village, Manoharpur, roughly 55 km from Jaipur Tuesday morning.Additional SP Tejpal Singh said the deceased were in the process of deboarding the bus near a brick kiln, when it came into contact with the power line. Bystanders and some passengers had tried to warn the driver of the hazard just moments before the accident, witnesses reported.Singh said some of the labourers travelling in the bus were carrying LPG cylinders and motorcycles, which resulted in multiple explosions shortly after the fire started, engulfing the entire vehicle in flames. Deputy CM and transport minister Prem Chand Bairwa also confirmed that multiple LPG cylinders had exploded in the burning bus.Local resident Devendra Prajapat said villagers rushed to the scene and were able to rescue several passengers before fire tenders reached the spot.Jaipur DC Jitendra Soni announced that a detailed inquiry has been ordered into the incident, and responsibility will be fixed on anyone found responsible.RTO officials revealed the bus was registered in UP and owned by a resident of that state. They said carrying motorcycles and LPG cylinders on the bus was a clear violation of safety norms, insisting that the vehicle's registration certificate is likely to be scrapped as a result.Police said an FIR will be registered against the bus owner and driver for flouting multiple safety rules. FSL teams have been called to inspect whether the emergency exit doors were functional at the time of the accident.Raja Khan, a resident of Pilibhit travelling on the bus, blamed the accident on the bus driver."The driver took the bus under the high-tension line despite being warned not to. A high voltage current passed through the bus as soon as it touched the power line, causing panic and forcing people to jump out of the windows," he said.The deceased have been identified as Naseem (50) and his daughter Sahinam (20). The six injured, currently under treatment at the SMS Hospital's burn ward, are Nazma (45, wife of deceased Naseem), Azhar 10 (the couple's son), Sitara Bano (45), Altaf (19), Chanda (40) and Naheem (26).A Jaipur (Rural) police official indicated that most of the injured appeared to be members of the same family.'Accident not due to height of power line'Jaipur DISCOM officials said the bus involved in Tuesday's fire was not travelling on a designated road, but on a dirt track used mainly for accessing agricultural fields and brick kilns. According to the Central Electricity Authority Regulations, 2023, the mandated height of 11 kV lines in the area is 15 feet. The actual line involved in the accident was at a height of 17 feet, officials said, refuting allegations that the incident was the result of a low, high-voltage power line.RTO officials also suspect luggage tied to the roof of the bus came into contact with the high-voltage power line, leading to the accident.
