Guwahati: The judicial custody of the five accused in the Zubeen Garg death case was extended by the chief judicial magistrate, Kamrup (Metro), by 14 more days on Tuesday. They were produced before the court virtually after the end of their 14-day judicial custody.The accused -- organiser of the North East India Festival in Singapore Shyamkanu Mahanta, Zubeen's manager Siddharth Sharma, his cousin Sandipon Garg, and two PSOs Nandeswar Bora and Paresh Baishya -- were arrested between October 1 and October 10 by the SIT. The district court on Oct 15 sent the five accused to 14-day judicial custody. They were transported to the district jail in Baksa on Oct 15, citing security concerns in Guwahati Central Jail.Taking them to Baksa jail sparked violent protests outside the jail premises, resulting in injuries to several people, including police and journalists. Police resorted to a lathi charge and lobbed rubber bullets to disperse the mob. None of the five accused has applied for bail so far.The judicial custody of two other accused, who are lodged in the sub jail at Haflong in Dima Hasao, will end on Wednesday.Zubeen died in Singapore on Sept 19 while swimming in the sea. He went to Singapore on Sept 17 and was scheduled to perform at the North East India Festival on Sept 20.
