New Delhi: When Ramkesh Meena (32) and Amrita Chauhan (21) met for a job interview at a Noida firm this May, little did they know their lives would be sucked into the vortex of a tornado of events well beyond their control. The chemistry between them was instant, and a quick chat led to a coffee date nearby. Before parting ways, the two exchanged numbers and promised to stay in touch. By August, their whirlwind romance culminated in the couple moving in together to a flat in Delhi. Their relationship deepened, and they began filming themselves during intimate moments, little realising these clips would later be used as a tool of blackmail. Trouble in their paradise started brewing early Sept as Amrita's ex-boyfriend, Sumit Kashyap, a gas cylinder distributor, re-entered her life, say police. The two social media enthusiasts from Moradabad, who reportedly parted ways in the past when she moved to Delhi, seemed to rekindle their romance. Ramkesh, meanwhile, found himself increasingly distanced from her life. He virtually became a recluse, while Amrita's social media feed painted a different picture: from Sept 8 to Oct 1, she posted around a dozen reels, lip-syncing to popular Bollywood tracks. The long shadow of Sumit left their relationship in ruins.It was at this point that Ramkesh, desperate to woo her back and remind her of their heydays, started sending her the clips of their previous intimate moments, allegedly blackmailing her in the process. Furious, Amrita threatened him with consequences and asked him to hand over the hard disk containing the clips to her so that she could delete them. Ramkesh denied, prompting her to hatch a sinister plot. At this juncture, Amrita moved in with Sumit at a rented house in Chhatarpur. The latter roped in his friend, Sandeep Kumar. The initial plan, police say, was to stage a robbery at Ramkesh's Timarpur house in order to recover the hard disk.On the night of Oct 6, a masked Sumit and Sandeep barged into the house. It is unclear if Amrita had already tied up and gagged Ramkesh with a cloth on the pretext of performing an intimate act. What's clear to police is Ramkesh died during a scuffle as the trio choked him for too long to extract information on the whereabouts of the hard disk.Realising he had died, they decided to stage a fire and make it seem as though he died in it. Amrita, with an educational background in forensics science, gave key inputs while Sumit handled his area of expertise -- gas cylinders. They poured ghee, oil and wine all over the body, turned on the knob of a cylinder and ignited it with a lighter. They then left the flat after locking the gate from inside through a mesh. The cylinder exploded after a while, sparking a fire that completely burned Ramkesh. The plan seemed to have worked as the cops initially suspected an AC blast was behind the blaze. But the CCTV footage, which showed them walking out of the house wearing masks, analyses of their mobile locations, and some quick thinking by the investigating officer led the cops to them. Both Amrita and Sumit blamed each other during interrogation, police said. All of them are in jail now. |
