Hyderabad: The death of autorickshaw driver Vijay Kumar has turned out to be a murder committed by his wife over frequent quarrels and her alleged extramarital relationship. The Meerpet police cracked the case after receiving the post-mortem report, which confirmed death by strangulation, and arrested the victim's wife. According to police, the case came to light on October 20, when the deceased's mother, Alampally Sathyamma, a resident of Pragathinagar Colony in Jillelguda, lodged a complaint stating that Vijay Kumar, her elder son, was found dead under suspicious circumstances. Based on her complaint, police registered a case of suspicious death under Section 194 of the BNSS and began an investigation. During the inquiry, the body was sent to Osmania General Hospital for post-mortem examination. The preliminary report revealed a ligature mark on the neck, suggesting strangulation. While the investigation was underway, on October 26, Vijay's brother informed police that Vijay's wife, Sandhya (34), a sanitation worker at the Meerpet Municipal Corporation, had confessed to killing her husband. Following this revelation, the case was altered to include charges of murder and destruction of evidence. Sandhya was apprehended on Monday. During questioning, she confessed to strangling her husband first with a scarf and then with a rope to ensure that he was dead. The incident occurred on October 20 after her husband, who frequently accused her of infidelity with a co-worker named Jeevan, allegedly returned home drunk, assaulted her, and threatened to end his life. In a fit of rage, Sandhya strangled him and later tried to stage the scene as an accidental death by placing the body outside the house near the bathroom. Police recovered the rope and scarf used in the crime from her residence. Sandhya was produced before the court and remanded to 14 days of judicial custody.
