Hyderabad: South East Zone DCP S Chaitanya Kumar recounted in his complaint how his armed guard's weapon fell on the road while attempting to apprehend the armed history sheeter, Md Omer Ansari, near Victory's Grounds in Chaderghat on Saturday.In the complaint, the DCP stated that he had retrieved the weapon and fired at Ansari when he attempted to attack the gunman with a knife. According to police, Ansari has been involved in cases of attempted murder, robbery, extortion and illegal arms possession since 2010.On Saturday at around 4:45 pm, while returning to his office in Saidabad after an official meeting with additional commissioner (crime) M Srinivasulu, the DCP's driver alerted him that three individuals had stolen a mobile phone from a passerby and were speeding away in an autorickshaw near Veeranari Chakali Ilamma Women's University at Koti.Determined to capture the culprits, the DCP ordered a pursuit, and his armed guard VSN Murthy quickly intercepted the auto at a nearby traffic light in Esamiya Bazar.Murthy detained one of the offenders, who was later identified as Md Omer Ansari, but the other two suspects fled in the auto.While he was being apprehended, Ansari pushed away Murthy and the DCP, who had arrived at the spot to assist him. Both officers sustained minor injuries when they fell onto the road and Murthy's 9mm service pistol fell to the ground, which was retrieved by the DCP. Taking advantage of the situation, Ansari fled into a lane in Esamiya Bazar and climbed onto the second-floor terrace of a house, pursued by the two officers. Cornered, Ansari brandished a knife and lunged at Murthy. In order to protect his subordinate, Kumar fired the first shot, aiming low to avoid causing fatal injuries. When the suspect persisted, the DCP fired a second round at the upper part of his body."After being hit twice, Omer jumped from the roof onto the road below and ran towards the adjacent Victory Playground. We left the building and gave chase. Once on the ground, I ordered him to stop and drop the knife, which he complied," the DCP stated.Omer was transferred to a nearby hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment. Both Kumar and Murthy have been admitted to another corporate hospital.Following the DCP's complaint, Sultan Bazaar police registered case 304 (snatching), 109 (attempt to murder), and 132 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) under the BNS against Md Omer Ansari and two others.
