New Delhi: Pakistani security forces killed three terrorists allegedly involved in a suicide attack plot in the North Waziristan district of northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. A statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Saturday, October 25, said that security forces, in an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the Jhallar area of the district, "foiled a major terrorist incident and averted a potentially devastating attack." The operation was based on credible intelligence about the presence of terrorists belonging to the "Fitna al-Khawarij" group. These terrorists were preparing to carry out a suicide attack using a vehicle-mounted bomb for a major terrorist activity. The term "Fitna al-Khawarij" is used by the Pakistani government to refer to terrorists affiliated with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The statement said that the troops effectively engaged the terrorists at their hideout, destroyed a vehicle being prepared for a suicide attack, and killed three terrorists in the encounter. The ISPR said that a search operation is underway in the area to eliminate any other terrorists present. It should be noted that tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan are currently at their peak regarding the TTP. Pakistan alleges that Afghanistan harbours the TTP and supports terrorism in Pakistan.
