Trichy/Chennai: Not all families of the Karur stampede victims are likely to travel to Chennai for the meeting with actor-politician Vijay on Monday, as the date coincides with the 30th day rituals being observed at their villages. While several have been contacted by members of Vijay's TVK, some said they were unwilling to travel during the mourning period of their family members."We are not going anywhere. If he (Vijay) wishes to meet us, he should come here. We are already shattered and yet to recover" said C Perumal, who lost his two daughters. Baskar D, uncle of victim Ajitha, said he had been receiving calls from the party for days. "They came home to persuade me. But I told them we cannot go to Chennai while conducting rituals here. He should meet families in Karur," he added.P Devendran, husband of Suganya, the last of the 41 victims to die, said he was approached by party representatives but remained undecided. "This Sunday is the 30th day since my wife's demise. If time permits after the rituals, I may go," he said. Some others said they would travel if called. "They said no suitable place was available in Karur, so we'll be taken to Chennai. I'll go as he has invited us, but they haven't said when we'll leave," said P Sakthivel, who lost his wife and daughter.Anandjothi B, who lost three relatives, said party members had promised to arrange a private vehicle. Families of victims Dhanush Kumar and Dhruv Vishnu said they were yet to be contacted but would attend if invited.TVK has booked around 50 rooms at a private resort at Mamallapuram near Chennai for the families. Vijay is expected to meet them individually in their rooms to offer condolences. A preparatory meeting was held on Saturday at the party office at Panaiyur to finalize logistics and travel arrangements. Party functionaries said the choice of venue outside Karur was made after permission to use local halls was not granted, and to avoid political tension in the area."We are unhappy that Vijay could not come to Karur and visit the families. But the party leadership wants to complete this responsibility before resuming campaign work which has been on pause since Sept 27," a district secretary said.Political analyst Tharasu Shyam said the move could be seen as a missed opportunity for Vijay to reconnect directly with the people of Karur. "Whatever the reason, it is a blunder. And what about the injured people who have lost their livelihoods?
