Sangrur: Deputy commissioner Rahul Chaba has announced a zero-tolerance policy to curb paddy stubble burning in Sangrur district. In an emergency meeting held at the District Administrative Complex's meeting hall, Chaba emphasised that cluster officers, nodal officers, and police personnel must actively prevent stubble burning or face consequences. The meeting, attended by Senior Superintendent of Police Sartaj Singh Chahal, additional deputy commissioner Amit Bambi, SPs, SDMs, DSPs, cluster officers, and other officials, focused on stringent measures to address environmental pollution caused by stubble burning. Chaba instructed cluster officers to report any nodal officers who are reluctant to perform their duties, stating that non-compliance would lead to disciplinary action.He highlighted that stubble burning incidents are currently under close observation by the Supreme Court and central agencies, with activities being monitored via satellite. Chaba directed administrative and police officials to conduct joint patrols in sensitive areas and maintain strict vigilance in the field. He made it clear that farmers setting fire to fields would face fines and punishment, and the responsible officers and SHOs would also face serious repercussions. Chaba called for heightened attention in the coming days to prevent stubble burning, urging cluster officers to visit villages accompanied by police personnel to disseminate the message against burning paddy stubble. He stated that joint patrols by civil and police officials would effectively deter individuals from setting crop residue on fire.Furthermore, the deputy commissioner directed that meetings be held with sarpanches, farmer unions, and influential individuals in all villages of Sangrur district. He also ordered announcements discouraging stubble burning to be made from gurdwaras, temples, and other religious institutions. Chaba stated that any obstruction of awareness efforts should be immediately reported to the police.
