Lucknow: Women cleaned their homes and prepared 'satvik' (pure veg) food for 'Nahaye Khaye', which marked the onset of Chhath puja, on Saturday. On 'Nahaye Khaye' day, devotees vow to observe the Chhath fast with purity, restraint and devotion for three days. People clean homes, offer 'arghya' to the rising sun and cook meals comprising 'lauki ki sabzi', 'chane ki dal', 'roti and chawal'. The festivities from this day until the conclusion with 'Usha Arghya' on the fourth day.People came to ghats to decorate 'Vedis' (sacrificial altar) for Chhathi Maiya at Lakshman Mela ground on Gomti banks.Munmun Singh, who hails from Bihar and got married in UP, was seen decorating the 'vedi' with her Maharashtrian sister-in-law.
