Varanasi: Making the Chhath Puja more special this year, the Varanasi division of the North Eastern Railway has used its announcement system to play the famous Chhath songs at more than 15 railway stations in the division, connecting the passengers with Bihar's culture.Varanasi division NER spokesperson, Ashok Kumar, said that during Chhath Puja, lakhs of people return to their homes in Bihar and various parts of North India. This year Indian Railways took the responsibility of getting passengers to their home cities through more than 12,000 special trains and thousands of regular trains and successfully transported passengers to their destinations while providing additional facilities. However, welcoming passengers with Chhath songs through station announcement systems at stations is perhaps happening for the first time. This effort is unique in itself and is connecting passengers coming from far-off places with Bihar's earthy culture.He said that the Chhath songs are being played at more than 15 railway stations in the division, including Chhapra, Siwan, Thawe, Masrakh, Gopalganj, Sidhwalia, Ekma, Mairwan, and Duraundha. The great festival of folk faith, Chhath, is incomplete without folk songs. Women going towards Chhath ghats walk in groups singing Chhath songs and seek blessings from the goddess. As trains carrying passengers from distant places reached their home railway stations, passengers are welcomed with Chhath songs.Temporary passenger shelters and holding areas have been created at Chhapra, Siwan, and Thawe railway stations in the Varanasi division, he said. These holding areas are equipped with all facilities for passengers, including electric lighting, fans, pure drinking water, mobile UTS ticketing, first aid, and train information. Proper arrangements have been made for public address speakers and video panels for necessary information. Extensive arrangements have been made to keep the circulating area vehicle-free, so that passenger movement can be easy during festivals.Along with Chhapra, Siwan, and Thawe stations, the Varanasi main control room is fully monitoring passengers and monitoring all station activities. Keeping safety and security in mind, demarcation and barricading have been done with provisions for CCTV cameras on all platforms, maintaining better passenger facilities, pre-determining platforms, encouraging increased use of ATVM/MUTS for mobile ticketing and self-ticketing, and an adequate number of Railway Protection Force personnel have been deployed to queue passengers and prevent crowd gathering at foot over bridges and single locations.
