Mumbai: Fishermen will get electricity concessions like farmers. Upto 44% electricity tariff will be waived. The concession is applicable due to the agricultural status given to fishing business.The concessions are applicable to fishermen, fish breeders and fish traders. A Govt Resolution (GR) by the fisheries department was issued to apply electricity tariff concession to fishing business projects at the same rate as agriculture. Fisheries minister Nitesh Rane said registration under National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) is required to avail the concession."In the backdrop of giving equivalent status to the fisheries sector like agriculture, concession in electricity tariff is being allowed to fishermen, fish farmers, fish traders, fish castors, fish seed/fish boat breeders and fish management (excluding fish processing industries). Electricity tariff concession is being implemented for fisheries projects in the state as per the agricultural tariff. Fishermen, fish farmers, fish producers etc. are included under this," the GR issued by the fisheries department said."The concerned beneficiary who is eligible for electricity tariff concession as per the GR will be required to submit an application to the assistant commissioner (fisheries) at the district level to get the electricity tariff concession...The fisheries project must be registered under the NFDB. Projects that have lapsed will not be eligible for the discount. If it is found that the electricity provided at concessional rate under the scheme has been misused, the amount of concession given earlier will be recovered along with penal interest. It will be mandatory to submit a guarantee letter to this effect by the concerned to the fisheries department," an official said."To determine the eligibility of applicants for electricity tariff concessions and to resolve the problems arising in relation to electricity tariff concessions, the assistant commissioner (fisheries) of the district will act as a coordinator at the district level. Similarly, to resolve the problems arising in relation to electricity tariff concessions, the executive engineer (administration) divisional office of MSEDCL will act as a coordinator at the district level. MSEDCL should take necessary further action to provide concession in electricity tariff to the eligible applicant and keep separate details of the same. The information of eligible beneficiaries in all districts and the funds required for the same should be compiled together and sent by the commissioner (fisheries) to the chief engineer (commercial) of MSEDCL," the official said.
