Bengaluru: The Kalaburagi bench of the Karnataka high court has directed the district and taluk administration of Chittapur, the constituency of minister Priyank Kharge, to meet with organisers on Tuesday (Oct 28) and decide on the planned Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) 'patha sanchalana' (route march) on Nov 2. Justice MGS Kamal observed that authorities should "accommodate all parties and not prolong the issue". "The petitioner shall cooperate with respondent authorities to take an appropriate decision, considering the situation in Chittapur town and taluk," the judge said. The matter will again be heard on Oct 30. Earlier, during the hearing, advocate general Shashikiran Shetty said the petitioner's request was not declined or rejected and is still being considered in light of the law and order situation in Chittapur. But senior advocate Arun Shyam, representing petitioner Ashok Patil, an RSS representative, insisted authorities must ensure the route march on Nov 2. He said central forces could be used to ensure law and order, if necessary. The Chittapur tahsildar had refused permission to RSS for a route march on Oct 19, pointing out that at least two Dalit organisations had also requested permission for rallies on the same day. A report submitted to the court under the order, dated Oct 19, stated that considering the ground realities in Chittapur, authorities would hold meetings with the organisers and peace committees with citizens to facilitate requests from various associations, including the petitioner. The report also noted that since Oct 19, there was tension in Chittapur town and across the taluk involving various organisations concerning the conduct of the 'patha sanchalana.' Conflicting statements by organisations in print, electronic, and social media have led to a turbulent atmosphere. The court was informed that permitting 'patha sanchalana' under these circumstances could lead to large gatherings and potential public disorder. In this context, local authorities decided to engage with the organisers to hold peace committee meetings, the court was told.
