Guwahati: The members of Assam Police SIT probing the death of Zubeen Garg have returned from Singapore after visiting key locations and holding a "fruitful meeting" with the island nation's police. Special DGP and SIT chief MP Gupta said Singapore Police would provide all assistance, including sharing CCTV footage and statements from the pilots of the yacht where Zubeen and others were present on the day of the incident. The information is expected within the next 10 days.Addressing a press conference at the CID headquarters, the SIT chief said, "We could also visit the places of incidents, which are required for the purpose of investigation. So, those things we could complete during the visit, and the remaining things are required to be done through the Singapore police. They have assured that they will come up with a positive reply within the next 10 days."He added that the Assam Police sought assistance from Singapore Police, seeking support on various aspects of the case. "We stressed the urgency. From my experience -- including with the CBI -- I know international cooperation can be time-consuming due to complex procedures. Fortunately, we received permission quickly and were able to meet Singapore authorities, who responded positively. I'm hopeful we'll receive all necessary information within next few days."Regarding the interrogation of the two yacht pilots -- Singapore citizens -- Gupta said their statements would be recorded by Singapore Police. "We've requested the Singapore Police to take their statements. We have also given them our questionnaire. If Singapore Police permit us to record them directly, we're prepared to do so," Gupta added.On a question regarding concerns about possible evidence tampering due to the delay in visiting Singapore, the SIT chief said, "There's no chance of tampering. Since it's a foreign country, we had to follow legal protocols. With persistent efforts, we secured permission and completed the visit in a short span. Singapore authorities have been cooperative."The two-member SIT team led by the SIT chief also met the Indian High Commissioner in Singapore and discussed all the legal assistance required from Singapore Police. Later, the team held discussions with a five-member high-level delegation of Singapore Police. "During the meeting, we exchanged information and emphasised the need for time-bound legal assistance, as we aim to complete the investigation within 90 days," Gupta said.So far, the SIT has arrested seven people, including Zubeen's cousin, and questioned over 70 people, including his wife Garima Saikia Garg, and 10 Assamese residents of Singapore. The SIT chief also said the chief minister's special vigilance cell has registered a disproportionate assets case against two Assam Police personnel, who were engaged as PSO of Zubeen and initially arrested in the death case, after huge financial transactions were discovered in their bank accounts.Gupta appealed to the people to come forward with any relevant information, especially those who were in contact with Zubeen in the week leading up to the incident or had exchanged messages with him.
