Guwahati, Oct 23 (UNI) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today announced that police have identified one culprit behind the bomb blast on railway tracks near Kokrajhar in the early hours today. Sarma stated that a major tragedy was averted because the loco pilot of a goods train witnessed the explosion and immediately alerted police. According to a spokesperson of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), the blast occurred at approximately 1 am as the goods train UP AZARA Sugar was passing between Salakati and Kokrajhar. The Train Manager reported a heavy jerk, prompting the train to stop. Inspection confirmed damage to the track and sleepers due to a suspected bomb blast. Following the incident, eight trains were detained under the Alipurduar division. The track was restored at 5:25 am, and normal train running has resumed. While not divulging specific details, the Chief Minister confirmed that the identified culprit has several cases registered against him in Assam and Jharkhand. "Investigation is on and I hope Assam police will arrest him soon," Sarma said, adding that a detailed investigation will reveal if the culprit is associated with any organisation. Patrolling has been intensified in the section, and the state Police, RPF, and intelligence authorities are jointly investigating the matter.
