186 firecracker-related eye injuries in Bengaluru during Deepavali | Bengaluru News - The Times of India

Bengaluru: As many as 186 firecracker-related eye injuries, including 103 involving children, were reported between Sunday and Wednesday in the city.Hospitals across Bengaluru treated patients for corneal abrasions and tears, conjunctival congestions, tears in the eyelids, singed eyelashes, and soot particles embedded in the eye. While most of the injuries were mild and superficial, a few required surgical intervention.At Minto Hospital, 44 injuries (21 children and 23 adults) were reported across four days. There were 16 grievous cases, including five where surgery was required. Most of the injuries were caused by crackers such as atom bombs, bijlis, and flower pots. The total injuries treated at the hospital was higher last year (71).In contrast, Narayana Nethralaya saw a rise in cases, with 93 patients -- 56 children and 37 adults -- treated compared to last year's 70. Seven needed surgical intervention.Sankara Eye Hospital treated 28 patients, including 13 children, while Nethradhama saw 21 patients, also including 13 children, this Deepavali season.
