Kolkata: BJP has been trying to mislead people with its illegal infiltrator pitch with regard to special intensive revision (SIR) of Bengal's voter roll, Trinamool Congress said on Wednesday, adding that the saffron party was trying to hide the fact that it has "neither organisation, nor acceptability" in Bengal. It said the BJP was "directionless" and had embarked on a "dangerous game to divide people" and "manipulate voter lists."Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Trinamool spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said: "Inclusion or deletion of voters from the electoral roll is done by the Election Commission (EC) under laid down procedure. In addition, representatives of political parties can formally object to such processes."Talking about BJP's claims of there being Bangladeshi and Rohingya infiltrators in Bengal's voter list, Ghosh said the saffron party should raise such issues with the Union home ministry. "Every time BJP alleges this, it in effect blames its own govt," Ghosh added. He further said the option to contest the list declared by EC following SIR exists with all parties, including BJP. "So, if problems persist, how can Trinamool be blamed?" he asked.Ghosh said: "BJP has tried everything in Bengal and has lost. So now, it is trying to manipulate the voter list with the help of EC. Our stand is very clear, if a genuine Bengal voter is deleted from the roll to aid BJP's agenda, it will be met with the protest it deserves."He further indicated that Trinamool was planning a big mobilisation against SIR. "Trinamool will bring all these facts before the people," he said.Asked if SIR could be conducted in Bengal with the help of central forces, Ghosh sarcastically remarked: "Why central forces? They should bring in UN peacekeeping forces to conduct SIR. They have tried everything else and have met with defeat."Trinamool spokesperson Jaiprakash Narayan said the EC's timeline for conduct of SIR would render it a "rush job". He said Bengal polls have to be announced by the end of Feb and thus the electoral roll will have to be published by Jan to allow time for claims and objections. This leaves the EC with less than 100 days to complete the SIR in Bengal, he argued.
