Pune: A 'purification' ritual carried out by BJP Rajya Sabha MP Medha Kulkarni at the historic Shaniwarwada monument after a video showing three Muslim women offering namaz inside the monument went viral on social media and draws criticism. The incident took place around 1:45 PM on Saturday, when three unidentified women were seen offering namaz within the premises of the protected heritage site. The video has sparked widespread debate online and a formal complaint filed by an officer of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). Based on the complaint, Pune Police registered a case against the women under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains (AMASR) Rules, 1959, which prohibit religious or other restricted activities at protected monuments.
