Kolkata: Several Kali Pujas across the city witnessed community bonding as people, irrespective of religious faiths, came together to celebrate the festival of lights. From planning pandal decorations and raising funds to overseeing the rituals and crowd management, members of different communities played equal roles in the celebrations.A Kali Puja on Mayfair Road spread the message of communal harmony through their celebration, in which locals from different communities participated. Sudhir Kumar Pathak, secretary of Mayfair Youth Organisation, said, "Our puja started in 1970 with two members, and gradually, the number of members increased. Now, residents of Bright Street, Syed Amir Ali Avenue, Palm Avenue, and Jhowtala Road are part of our puja. In the past few years, we faced problems with funds, and members of other communities, including Sikh, Christian, and Muslim, have come to our aid with subscriptions. To celebrate the spirit of togetherness, we have themed our puja on communal harmony."The organisers of Fatakesto Kali Puja on Amherst Street acknowledged the hard work of members of both Hindu and Muslim communities to pave the way for celebrations every year. Prabandha Roy, nicknamed Fanta, who took over charge of this puja in 1992, said, "Our celebration breaks community barriers as we plan together throughout the year. Community bonding has been a pillar of our puja.
