MAJOR jolt to INDIA bloc as JMM says won't contest Bihar polls due to..., blames Congress, RJD for...

Bihar Assembly Election: In a major setback for the Opposition INDIA bloc, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has backed out of the upcoming Bihar Assembly Election, citing a "political conspiracy" by its allies RJD and Congress, who did not grant the seats it had demanded in the Mahagathbandhan. Talking to reporters, senior JMM leader and Jharkhand tourism minister Sudivya Kumar blamed INDIA bloc allies RJD and Congress for the decision, as they deprived the party of seats under a political conspiracy. "The RJD and the Congress are responsible for depriving JMM from contesting the election as part of a political conspiracy." Kumar added that the JMM will "review" its alliance with INDIA bloc in Jharkhand, and give a befitting reply to the "snub" in Bihar. JMM's announcement came barely two days after the Hemant Soren-led party said that it would go solo in Bihar and contest the elections in six assembly segments in wake of failed seat-sharing talks with its allies. Addressing a presser on Saturday, JMM general secretary Supriyo Bhattacharya had revealed that his party will contest six seats in Bihar, and said the number may go up to 10 as JMM was "discussing the matter". "The party has decided to contest the Bihar polls on its own. It will contest six assembly seats - Chakai, Dhamdaha, Katoria (ST), Manihari (ST), Jamui and Pirpainti (SC)," Bhattacharya said, adding that the number of seats may rise to 10, when asked whether JMM would consider contesting more seats. Asked why JMM decided to go solo in Bihar polls, Bhattacharya said the party had asked INDIA bloc constituents, including Congress and RJD, to provide them the seats they demanded, but the seat-sharing deadlock could not be resolved. Bihar Assembly Election will be held in two phases on November 6 and November 11, with the counting of votes to follow on November 14. More than 1,250 candidates filed their papers for the 121 seats as the filing of nomination papers for the first phase of Assembly polls concluded on Friday, according to the Election Commission.
