Chandigarh: The Chandigarh administration has formally asked the Municipal Corporation (MC) to provide an update on the implementation of the smart paid parking system and revised parking rates approved by former Punjab governor and UT administrator Banwari Lal Purohit in June 2024. Despite the approval, the civic body has failed to implement the system, prompting the administration to demand clarity and a possible resubmission of the proposal.In a detailed letter addressed to the municipal commissioner, the local govt department of the Chandigarh administration emphasised the need for a thorough review of the matter. The letter, a copy of which is with TOI, states: "The matter has been examined by this administration. It is requested to intimate the latest position of implementation of parking rates approved vide order dated 13 June 2024 and also send the approved minutes of the 348th meeting in this regard. Resubmit the proposal afresh, if required."MC sources said a response to the administration's letter is being prepared. However, the smart paid parking system remains in limbo, with key documentation still pending finalisation. The parking committee is yet to finalise Request for Proposal (RFP) for the project. Once the RFP is approved, it will be presented to the general house for discussion and final approval.
