New Delhi: As part of its clean energy push, Delhi govt is stepping up efforts to promote rooftop solar panels in the city's villages under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, leveraging the abundant roof space in rural areas to help achieve its renewable energy targets. To support this drive, Tata Power has launched the 'Solar Sakhi' campaign in north Delhi, training around 100 women to act as community ambassadors and educate villagers about the benefits of solar energy and guide them in availing govt subsidies. Similarly, BSES is implementing parallel initiatives across its service areas. The PM Surya Ghar scheme offers substantial financial incentives -- a central subsidy of Rs 78,000 and an additional Rs 30,000 from the Delhi govt for rooftop solar installations up to 3 kW, making solar energy accessible and affordable for households. On the Solar Sakhi campaign, an official said, "The women are reaching out to over 75 villages within Tata Power's distribution zone, spreading awareness and encouraging solar adoption." Tata Power-DDL has already achieved over 117 MWp of rooftop solar capacity through more than 6,300 installations, including 4,680 domestic consumers, 1,616 commercial and industrial setups, and 42 installations under Virtual Net Metering and Group Net Metering (solar credit distribution) schemes. Meanwhile, BSES has energised over 11,100 rooftop solar connections, adding 228 MW of clean capacity to Delhi's grid by Sept 2025. "A significant share of this growth is driven by the PM Surya Ghar scheme," said another official, adding, "More than 2,500 households in BSES areas have adopted solar under the programme, generating over 20 MW of power. Notably, adoption is no longer limited to city colonies -- rural Delhi is also stepping up, with nearly 500 households already generating solar power." Looking forward, BSES plans to add nearly 52,000 new rooftop solar connections in the 2025-26 financial year, contributing about 61 MW, with approximately 44,000 connections expected under the PM Surya Ghar scheme. To boost adoption, BSES is ramping up outreach via awareness camps, Surya Rath roadshows, solar melas involving MLAs and MPs, Resident Welfare Association meetings, street plays, door-to-door campaigns and social media efforts. The utility is also developing Model Solar Villages to demonstrate optimal rooftop solar uptake and inspire neighbouring communities. "Interest in solar energy is growing steadily, not only because it is cost-effective but also is sustainable," said the official.

Advance tax collection during the period rose 21 per cent to Rs 7.56 lakh crore. The collection includes corporate tax of over Rs 7.42 lakh crore and non-corporate tax mop-up of Rs 7.97 lakh crore.
