Ajmer: Union railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Saturday sanctioned a final location survey (FLS) for the proposed railway line from Devgarh in Rajasmand to Marwar Junction via Todgarh in Beawar district. Officials said the survey for this 72-km stretch, which traverses hilly and densely forested areas, will cost ₹11.75 crore.Towns and villages along this proposed route currently have no access to rail connectivity, with Beawar being the nearest railway station for most locals. The new railway line will connect people of this region to Pali, Udaipur, Rajsamand and beyond. "Despite Devgarh Madariya and Todgarh being scenic places, with the added attraction of the Todgarh-Raoli Wildlife Sanctuary, tourist footfall in this region remains low due to connectivity issues", said an official of the Ajmer Divisional Railway Manager's office. "The proposed railway track will be a critical milestone in connecting this region to mainstream tourist circuits", he added.Besides boosting the area's tourism potential, Railway officials are optimistic about the new line giving a much-needed fillip to trade and supporting the setting up of industrial units over time.The Railways will prepare financial and technical bids once the FLS is completed, before finalising a descriptive project report (DPR) for the Railway Board to obtain final approvals, officials said."Work on gauge conversion is currently going on in the 82-km stretch between Nathdwara and Devgarh at a cost of ₹969 crore.
