Thiruvananthapuram: The police team probing the rape of a woman IT employee at her hostel in Kazhakkoottam collected crucial CCTV visuals, possibly of the accused, on Saturday."Since the CCTV cameras in the hostel were not functional, we had to check the visuals in the adjacent building. In the visual, a man was seen approaching the hostel and entering through the front gate, which remained open. The crime took place around 2am, and the man was spotted in the visuals almost at the same time. We could not find anyone else during that time," the probe team said.The probe team showed the image of the accused to the victim but she could not identify him. "According to the victim, she did not see the accused as he raped her and escaped when she raised alarm. Since the crime took place when she was in deep sleep and the lights were off, the victim could not recollect even the least hints about the accused," police said.During the medical examination, doctors verified the allegation raised by the woman that she was raped.The probe team will examine more CCTV visuals to have a clear picture of the accused and the direction in which he moved after the crime. "Identifying the person in the visual is of paramount importance to us as we can collect further evidence later. The tower location of the accused, DNA testing, fingerprints, etc. will act as crucial evidence once the accused is identified," added police.On Friday morning, the 25-year-old woman approached Kazhakkoottam police, stating that she was raped by someone who trespassed into the hostel room around 2am. Due to fear, she did not reveal anything to anyone until morning. In the morning, she gathered courage and recounted the incident to her friends. Her friends motivated her to take legal action, and finally, a complaint was lodged.
