Chandigarh: The festive spirit of Dhanteras has brought a steady flow of customers to local markets, with both gold and silver jewellery witnessing strong demand, despite record-high prices. Market associations and jewellers across the city have reported a better-than-expected turnout.Sanjeev Chadha, president of Chandigarh Beopar Mandal, said, "In view of Dhanteras, markets have been buzzing with people. The overall response in the market is good."Gold prices have surged to Rs 1,21,000 per 10 gram for 22-carat and Rs 1,32,000 for 24-carat. Despite this, jewellers said buyers are still investing, driven by the belief in gold as a stable asset. Silver, priced at Rs 185 per kg, has become especially popular among younger buyers.Jeweller Bobby Klaita, who owns a store in Sector 23, said, "Coins and temple jewellery have been the most sold items. The sales have increased as compared to that of last year."Retailers also observed a shift in consumer behaviour. Customers are buying smaller quantities but not skipping purchases altogether. Sanjeev Aggarwal, another jeweller in Sector 23, said, "We were expecting the rush to be less, but that hasn't happened.
