Nagpur: In a decisive anti-graft operation, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Nagpur, caught assistant transport officer Anup Sanap and junior clerk Mohan Divate of the Sub-Regional Transport Office (SRTO), Nagpur Rural, for taking a bribe to bypass inspection and release an overloaded truck.The operation was triggered by a complaint from a truck owner whose vehicle, carrying ballast, was issued a challan of Rs 50,750 for overloading. The complainant alleged that Divate demanded Rs 5,000 to release the truck without conducting the mandatory inspection.Following the complaint, ACB teams laid a trap on October 17. A meeting was arranged between the complainant and SRTO officials. During the meeting, Divate reiterated the bribe demand, which Sanap endorsed, colluding to misuse their official positions. "Divate was nabbed while taking Rs4,000 bribe in tainted currency. Sanap was implicated as a co-conspirator," ACB officials said. Both SRTO officials now face charges under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018). The operation was supervised by Digambar Pradhan, superintendent of police, ACB Nagpur.
