Pune: The increase in renewable energy production capacity will support sustainable mobility efforts in the state, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Thursday."We have a robust solar power generation system. By 2030, I am sure that the share of renewable power generation in the state will be around 52%. This will help develop charging infrastructure using decarbonised power," he said at the launch of the EV truck developed and manufactured by Essar Group-backed Blue Energy Motors at its plant in Chakan.The state govt is promoting sustainable mobility through its policy measures so that such transport becomes profitable. Fadnavis said that industries working towards sustainable transport should consider govt as their partners in the effort.The CM said that apart from public transport, the decarbonisation of cargo handling is important for sustainable transport, as trucks are a major source of pollution, emitting harmful gases. All kinds of vehicles need to be decarbonised, he added.India needs indigenous manufacturing of electric cargo handling vehicles along with developing quick battery swapping, critical for the rapid adoption of electric mobility. As of now, smaller battery range, higher charging time, and higher investment cost are challenges for the advancement of electric vehicles in the transportation space. While there is some level of adoption of EVs in buses, there are no electric trucks plying on the roads."Battery prices are coming down with more efficient batteries coming into the market. While the current range of electric trucks is 200km, in the next two to three years, there will be a battery with a range of 400 km," Fadnavis said. The CM said that mobility now is 'software on wheels'. The technology that drives the vehicles enables manufacturers to monitor everything remotely.
