Jaipur: As the school education department plans to start the next academic session from April 1, it Wednesday proposed tentative dates for start of board exams for classes 10 and 12 in Feb, instead of March as scheduled earlier.The proposed dates for the board exams are from Feb 12 to March 12. Final exams for classes 9 and 11 have been proposed from March 10 to March 25, instead of the earlier scheduled dates of April 23 to May 8. Half-yearly exams for classes 9-12, which were scheduled to take place Dec 12-24, are now likely to be held from Nov 11 to Dec 2.After a meeting with teachers' organisations Wednesday, officials said that with this change, the number of teaching days in an academic session will increase from 180 to 210-220.Secretary for school education, Krishna Kunal, said, "The change in the academic session will enable teaching in accordance with the NEP 2020. This will not only increase the number of teaching days but also provide students with more time for quality education. Uniformity with the CBSE academic calendar is also expected to increase school enrollment numbers."Representatives from teachers' organisations emphasised the need to launch a parent awareness campaign to ensure the success of this initiative.Ranjeet Meena, president of Rajasthan Shikshak Sangh (Ekikrit), suggested that the session be started from May 1 instead of April 1, as changing the schedule for half-yearly, final, and board exams along with releasing results timely will be difficult.
