Shivakumar denies role inBigg Boss studio shutdown | Bengaluru News - The Times of India

Bengaluru: Deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar has dismissed allegations of being behind the shutdown of Kannada reality series Bigg Boss' studio in Bidadi. The popular TV show is hosted by Kannada film actor Kichcha Sudeep. The studio, housed at Jolly Wood Studios and Adventures, was sealed off following a notice served by the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) over violations of environmental rules."I had no role to play in this entire episode and was apprised of the development by television channels late Tuesday night. I, in fact, called up the SP and DC and took them to task for serving the notice and shutting down the studio as it would affect the employment of those involved on the show. Not only Bigg Boss, but all entertainment programmes must continue unhindered," he said Wednesday.Stating that he was the one who inaugurated the studio, Shivakumar, however, said officials had taken action legally. He described Sudeep as "our boy" and wished him well.Meanwhile, KSPCB chairperson PM Narendra Swamy clarified that the board did not receive any request for relaxation of rules for the studio. On the delay in initiating action against the studio, Narendraswamy explained, "We cannot shut down a firm immediately, as it could invite legal challenges. The file was brought to my notice after I took charge as the board chairperson. I have endorsed the findings of our regional officers, who acted strictly as per the law. The process was not rushed -- two field inspections were conducted and multiple notices were issued to the promoters to ensure compliance."He also clarified that KSPCB is not aware that the reality show was hosted at the studio.Narendraswamy noted that certain provisions under the law allow relaxation if promoters file an affidavit and a formal request.Lalbagh will not be harmed: DKSDCM DK Shivakumar on Wednesday said the state govt will not harm the Lalbagh botanical garden in any way to facilitate the ambitious tunnel road project in the City."We do know that Lalbagh has historical importance and is sacred in nature. I will be visiting Lalbagh along with officials next Monday and take stock of the situation. No one should worry about this issue," he said.
