Panaji: Valanka Alemao has found a place in FIFA's women's football development committee, a first for a woman from India.The first woman to be elected as member of the All India Football Federation's executive committee in 2022, Valanka is also the first woman CEO of a top-tier club in the country, having been appointed to the post at Churchill Brothers FC in 2012. She is also the chairperson of the AIFF women's committee.The FIFA women's football development committee for 2025-29 has 25 members from across the world and is led by former France defender and France FA general secretary Laura Georges."This honour represents a significant milestone," Valanka said after FIFA confirmed the standing committees on its website, approved by the FIFA Council on Oct 2. "This appointment is not just a personal achievement; it is a historic moment for India. By accepting this role, I become the first woman from our nation to be appointed to a committee by the world's most prestigious and largest sporting organisation. My professional life has been dedicated to the promotion and growth of football, both women and men, across India.
