Amalapuram, Oct 8 (UNI) The death toll in the explosion which took place in a firecracker manufacturing unit at Komaripalem of Rayavaram mandal in Konaseema district has risen to seven, with one of the injured persons succumbing to injuries in hospital. Police said the explosion took place when firecrackers were being manufactured at the Lakshmi Ganapathi Grant fireworks unit. Over 40 workers were working at the firecracker unit when the accident took place. Huge stocks of ingredients to make firecrackers, including explosive substances, were stocked in the unit, police said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep grief over the loss of lives due to a mishap in Konaseema district, Andhra Pradesh. Mr.Modi also wished speedy recovery for those injured in the mishap. The Prime Minister's Office posted on 'X': "The loss of lives due to a mishap in Konaseema district, Andhra Pradesh, is deeply saddening. My thoughts are with the affected people and their families during this difficult time. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured." Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed shock and grief over the accident and the death of workers. He spoke to the officials of Konaseema district and inquired about the reasons for the accident. He directed them to provide the best medical treatment to the injured. Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha visited the accident site along with the police and revenue officials on Wednesday. Talking to the media, the Home Minister said that the Government would take all precautions to ensure that such incidents do not recur. The officials would ensure that the firecracker manufacturing units follow the guidelines and safety measures. "The officials concerned were directed to inspect all the firecracker manufacturing units and firecracker selling shops and ensure that they follow safety measures," the Home Minister said. Home Minister Anitha asserted that the Government would announce ex gratia to the bereaved families.
