Kohima, October 8 (MExN): The Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) has amicably settled 89 disputes as part of the 90-day 'Mediation for the Nation' campaign, which concluded recently. According to a press statement, the campaign, which ran from July to September 2025, saw a total of 428 cases referred for mediation by the District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) and the High Court Legal Services Committee. The pan-India initiative was conceptualised by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and the Mediation & Conciliation Project Committee (MCPC) of the Supreme Court, under the guidance of the Chief Justice of India and Justice Surya Kant, Supreme Court Judge and Executive Chairman of NALSA. During the campaign, all High Courts, including Nagaland's, transmitted data to the MCPC regarding pending and mediated cases. Justice Surya Kant also held video conferences with Chief Justices across the country to monitor the drive. The cases taken up for mediation in Nagaland encompassed a range of disputes, including money suits, custody battles, consumer and family disputes, compoundable criminal cases, and motor accident claims, the statement said. Additionally, the cases were taken up by Mediators who have undergone 40 hours mediation training. The NSLSA stated that in Nagaland, under the NSLSA, a total of 52 legal practitioners have undergone mediation training imparted by the National Legal Services Authority. The authority also noted that while 89 cases were successfully resolved, several others could not reach settlement due to reasons such as non-response from parties, a lack of interest in the mediation process, or requests for more time. For those seeking amicable dispute resolutions, the NSLSA has announced that parties can approach their respective DLSA front offices or the NSLSA office, especially with the upcoming 4th Quarterly National Lok Adalat scheduled for December 13, 2025.
