It has emerged that selectors had to make the call under pressure. In an incident that continues to show the shambolic manner in which the Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA) is run, as Delhi's team for the upcoming Vinoo Mankad Trophy had a glaring error, as a player who has never kept wickets in his career was chosen as the team's back-up wicket-keeper. As per a report by Dainak Jagran, Delhi named a 23-man team for the event, which is Indian cricket's premier U-19 domestic event. The published information reveals that the squad was picked after haphazard trials and a yo-yo test on October 3. The same report states that after the selection, several DDCA officials pointed out the issue to President Rohan Jaitley, who is said to have taken immediate action and a genuine wicket-keeper was selected while the initial player was removed. However, it is claimed that the selectors were not to blame for the incident. It is reported that the decision was taken due to a DDCA official putting pressure on the selectors with a 'big reason' said to be at play. The report also claims that the selection process has come under the scanner, as the DDCA's selection meeting was attended by the secretary Ashok Sharma and joint secretary Amit Grover, despite the Ombudsman's order DDCA member Suresh Kumar Sharma, on September 28, wrote an email to Rohan Jaitley, Ombudsman's interim order dated September 22nd, 2023, which stated that no office bearer will attend selection meetings of Delhi Cricket's cricket governing body. Over recent years, the administration of DDCA has come under the scanner, with this incident only the latest. As far as the Vinoo Mankad Trophy is concerned, tthe tournament will take place from October 9. Delhi will play all its league stage matches in Ranchi.
