Srinagar, Oct 2 (UNI) The Ladakh Administration has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the September 24 violence in Leh, which left four people dead and over hundred injured. The inquiry report will be submitted within four weeks. An official statement today said District Magistrate Leh has appointed Sub-Divisional Magistrate Nubra Mukul Beniwal as the inquiry officer to probe the circumstances that led to the law and order breakdown and the subsequent police action resulting in casualties. The inquiry will examine in detail the sequence of events and the police response that claimed the lives of four individuals -- Jigmet Dorjey of Kharnak, Rinchen Dadul of Hanu, Stanzin Namgail of Igoo, and Tsewang Tharchin of Skurbuchan. One of the slain Tsewang Tharchin was a Kargil war veteran. The administration has appealed to the public to cooperate with the inquiry and submit any oral or written statements, along with supporting material such as photographs or videos, between October 4 and October 18 at the DC Office Conference Hall, Leh, or directly before the inquiry officer. The magisterial probe comes amid growing calls for accountability following last week's violence in Leh, which erupted on 15th day of a hunger strike led by climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, who has been booked under National Security Act and sent to Jodhpur jail in Rajasthan. After the violence officials blamed Wangchuk for inciting the protests. Ladakh's Leh Apex Body, spearheading the statehood and special status campaign, withdrew from the scheduled talks with the Centre and asked the union government to first order a judicial inquiry into the killing of civilians and release of all those detained last week.
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday said the Karnataka government and the Centre should resolve the issue in connection with the release of financial assistance from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) to the state for drought management.
