New Delhi: In a notable development, the Delhi High Court has quashed a sexual harassment case after the parties involved reached a settlement, with the accused agreeing to perform community service at the historic Jama Masjid in Delhi. Justice Anish Dayal, presiding over the matter, observed that the two accused had entered into a settlement and that the prospects of conviction appeared "remote and bleak." The judge further noted that continuing the proceedings would amount to a misuse of the judicial process and impose an unnecessary burden on the State exchequer. FIR quashed upon complainants approval The case originated in 2019 when a woman filed a complaint against two male relatives, citing offences under Sections 354 (assault on a woman), 354A (sexual harassment), 354B (assault or use of criminal force against a woman with intent to disrobe), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 509 (insulting the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code. As per a LiveLaw report, during the hearing, the complainant told the Court that she did not object to the quashing of the FIR, explaining that the matter had emerged from a domestic dispute that had since been resolved. "Senior family members had passed away and the issue between us arose out of a domestic dispute which had been resolved," she said. 2 months community service at Jama Masjid, Rs 5000 contribution in welfare fund As part of the settlement, the accused committed not to engage in any activity that might lead to further complaints. In addition, they agreed to contribute Rs 5,000 each to the Delhi Police Welfare Fund and to perform community service at Jama Masjid for four hours a day, four days a month, over the next two months. Acknowledging the settlement and these undertakings, Justice Dayal allowed the petition. "Accordingly, the petition is allowed.
