Karwar: The Uttara Kannada deputy commissioner has directed food department officials to open registration centres in all taluks of the district to register farmers for the procurement of paddy under the current season's minimum support price (MSP) scheme.DC K Lakshmipriya presided over a district-level task force meeting at the deputy commissioner's office on Tuesday, discussing the procurement of paddy at the support price. The govt has set the MSP for common paddy at Rs 2,369 per quintal and for Grade A paddy at Rs 2,389 per quintal. To facilitate the purchase of a larger quantity of paddy from farmers, registration centres should be opened in all taluks, she said. Registration centres should be established to ease the procurement of paddy through TAPCMS centres, and it should be ensured that procurement centres have proper storage facilities and necessary infrastructure. Quality inspectors should be appointed at each centre to verify quality, and procurement officers should be appointed, she added. A maximum of 50 quintals of paddy per farmer can be purchased, with a limit of 25 quintals per acre. The payment for the paddy purchased from farmers will be directly credited to their bank accounts via DBT. Mill owners should be identified for milling the collected paddy at procurement centres, she mentioned. According to the agriculture department's information, paddy is cultivated on 40,626.3 hectares in the district, with an estimated yield of 10,95,058 quintals. She also instructed that all types of facilities provided by the department should be made available to sanitation workers working in urban local bodies in the district. All sanitation workers should be paid the wages determined by the labour department on time, and labour department officials should verify the deductions made for ESI and PF. Proper safety equipment should be provided during work hours, and instructions on their use should be given. Separate rest room facilities for men and women should be provided after work. Regular health check-ups and master health check-ups should be conducted, she said. Care should be taken to ensure that the manual scavenging system is not seen in the district. All urban local bodies should compulsorily clean septic tanks using suction machines, she instructed. The meeting was attended by district panchayat CEO Dilish Shashi and district level senior officials were present.
