Kargil, Sept 30: The Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) on Tuesday announced it will support the Apex Body's decision to boycott talks with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) until a judicial inquiry is announced into the recent violence in Leh and allegations against activist Sonam Wangchuk are withdrawn. Addressing a press conference at the Press Club of India, senior KDA leader Asgar Ali Karbalai said, "We are in constant touch with our Apex Body. Our delegation had come here for a preparatory meeting after consulting our co-chairs. But due to the tragic incidents of the past two days, in which the rights of the martyrs were denied to their families, our founder and members have decided not to participate in the upcoming talks until a judicial probe is ordered, the detainees are released, and the baseless allegations are withdrawn." Karbalai questioned the government's handling of the situation. "On whose instructions were unarmed protesters shot, leading to four deaths? Whoever is responsible must face a judicial investigation by a sitting judge and be punished accordingly," he asserted. He alleged that more than fifty youths have been detained under various sections and sent to camps. "This is unacceptable for Ladakhis at any cost. All detainees must be released immediately and charges dropped," Karbalai demanded, adding that the situation could have been handled peacefully. MP Ladakh Haji Hanifa Jan, who was also present, said attempts were being made to paint the Ladakhi movement as "anti-national". "Patriots have always come forward with the spirit of nationalism, yet today a narrative is being spread to malign Ladakh. The people are deeply hurt and angry," he said. Meanwhile, the Apex Body Chairman reaffirmed that Ladakhis had placed four key demands before the Centre -- Sixth Schedule status, statehood, job safeguards for youth, and two parliamentary seats. "While talks were underway, the violent turn of events has halted dialogue. Unless normalcy is restored and peace ensured, we will not proceed with talks," he declared. Apex Body Co-Chairman also strongly rejected allegations of foreign funding or links with Pakistan, terming them "baseless attempts by the administration to discredit the movement". In another significant development Ministry of Home Affairs MHA has already said that they are ready for talks on Ladakh. The ministry said the government is confident that continuous dialogue would yield desired results in the near future.
