Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh faced a deficit of only 6% rainfall between June 1 and Sept 20, which is considered normal rainfall received during the monsoon season.According to officials at the Met Department, it was a good monsoon season for the state since there was continuous rainfall with a gap of just a few days or so throughout the season. "There are four months of monsoon from Jun to Sep. Monsoon 2025 was good for the state in the sense that there was continuous rainfall throughout the season. In the previous monsoon season, there was heavy rainfall for a few days; thereafter, districts faced a dry spell, but this year it was not so," said senior scientist Mohammad Danish of the State Met Centre. He said in the state the deficit was 6% below the normal rainfall, but this deficit is considered as normal rainfall. A normal rainfall, in the context of India's meteorological classifications, is defined as a rainfall departure from the Long Period Average (LPA) that falls within the range of -19% to +19%. This category includes rainfall that is within 19% above or 19% below the established average for a specific area, while deviations of 20% or more are classified as excess or deficient rainfall, respectively. While overall in the state, there was a deficit of 6%, in West UP, rainfall was 12% above normal, while in East UP, it was 17% below normal. Out of 75 districts, around 44 districts recorded rainfall below normal, which is approximately 58% of all UP districts. There were more than 50% of the districts in the state that faced a rainfall deficit this monsoon, which means the actual rainfall received was less than the average rainfall during the monsoon season. Wettest UP districts, where rainfall was above normal, were Etah (74%) followed by Hathras (47%), Lalitpur (46%), Mahoba (46%), Bijnor, and Faridabad, recording 45% rainfall above district normal.
