Vijayawada, Sep 30 (UNI) The flood situation of the rivers Krishna and Godavari remains grim and NDRF and SDRF teams were deployed to the affected areas. As heavy inflow continues in the river Godavari, road connectivity to over 40 villages was cut off today. Several causeways and roads were submerged in the Godavari flood water at various places. Villagers were seen using motorboats and boats to come out of the villages. The NDRF and SDRF teams were deployed to food affected areas in Combined West Godavari, East Godavari and Krishna district to carry out relief operations. Aggravating the flood situation of Godavari, the tributaries Shabari and Pranahita are also in spate. AP Disaster Management director Prakhar Jain said that the Prakasam barrage here across the Krishna river is receiving 6,69,188 cusecs of water and the same is being released to the downstream and danger signal two was issued at the barrage. He said that the inflow would increase to seven lakh cusecs by midnight. The water level at the Polavaram project stood at 32.900 metres at the upstream and 24.500 metres at the downstream. All the crest gates of the Polavaram project across the Godavari river were lifted to release 10,50,735 cusecs of water to the downstream Dowleswaram project. Several villages including Dacharam, Bestagudem, Nemalipet Mcharam, Mutyalampadu in Kukkunuru mandal in Eluru district were surrounded by the Godavari flood water cut off from the outer world. Official sources said that 16 villages including Rudramkota, Repakagomu, Tatkurugommu, Tirumalapuram, Narlavram, Yadavalli, Katkuru, Kasaram, Koida, Tokupalli, Kenkudukotta, Chigurumamidi, Kotturu and Gollapalli in Velerupadu mandal were surrounded by the Godavari flood water. The Dowleswaram project is receiving 11,03,802 cusecs of water and the same is being discharged downstream into the sea. The inflow would increase to 12.20 lakh cusecs in the next one days, officials said. Several island villages in Repalle mandal in Bapatla district were surrounded by the Krishna flood water and most of them were shifted to the relief camps. Eluru district Collector K Vetri Selvi reviewed the Godavari flood situation with the officials today. She directed the officials to keep ready boats and expert swimmers to shift people from the low-lying areas. The pregnant women, elderly people and those who are suffering from comorbidities should be shifted to safer places on priority basis, she told the officials.
