Dehradun Sept 30 (UNI) The Uttarakhand police have ruled out any foul play in the death of Uttarkashi journalist Rajiv Pratap, whose body was recovered from Joshiyada Barrage on the Bhagirathi river on September 18, 10 days after he went missing. According to the postmortem report, the 36-year-old journalist died due to internal injuries sustained in an accident. "Internal injuries due to the accident have been inferred as the main cause of the death of journalist Rajiv Pratap in the postmortem report. Pratap had gone missing on the night of September 18 as his car fell 50 metres deep into the swollen Bhagirathi at Gangori area and he was swept away," said Uttarkashi SP Sarita Dobhal. Dobhal said, "Although investigation is still going, so far no evidence or facts of foul play have surfaced in the probe. Nor has any evidence come to light that the deceased was getting threatening calls from someone or he had a threat to his life." The journalist's family had alleged that he was being threatened for posting videos on irregularities in hospitals and other departments on his Facebook page, Delhi Uttarakhand Live. They had also expressed suspicion of foul play. "We did not receive any specific input from the family on where the deceased was getting threatening calls. Neither did we find evidence of any threat to him from his phone call detail analysis," SP Uttarkashi added. Pratap, an alumnus of the Indian Institute Mass Communication (IIMC), went missing on the night of September 18 while driving a car he borrowed from his friend in the police department. His family lodged a missing complaint the next day, which was later converted into an FIR for kidnapping under relevant sections of BNS (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita). The family said in the complaint that Rajiv was untraceable after he moved towards Gangori-Bhatwari on September 18 night. The family had also alleged that he was being threatened for uploading videos as to irregularities in the hospital and other departments in his Facebook page titled 'Delhi Uttarakhand live'. According to the police, Rajiv's car was found in a dilapidated state at Gangori on September 19, while his body was recovered from Joshiyada Barrage, about 4-5 km away, after a special search operation involving police and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). CCTV footage obtained by police showed him driving alone in an Alto on the night of his disappearance. District officials said the special search operation required lowering the barrage's water level and monitoring the inflow to recover the body.
