NEW DELHI: Commuters can brace for heavy traffic on Tuesday evening, with several measures in place for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Kali Mandir in CR Park on the occasion of Ashtami.As part of the security arrangements, all cars parked along Bipin Chandra Pal Road (from Axis Bank to Market 1), the stretch between K and J blocks, and Mandir Road in J block must be removed after afternoon until 9pm. Police have advised residents to use back lanes, internal gated roads or stilt parking, warning that any vehicles left on the roads will be towed. PM is expected to arrive around 4pm, and restrictions are likely to affect nearby routes until about 6-6.30pm. Areas around Chirag Dilli, Ring Road, Lala Lajpat Rai Marg and Lodhi Road flyover could experience congestion during this period. Meanwhile, on Monday, commuters struggled with gridlocks, as Durga Puja festivities drew large crowds across south and central Delhi. One of the worst traffic snarls was reported during Maha Saptami near CR Park, where jams stretched from Chirag Dilli to the pandals. Delhi Traffic Police had flagged these routes in its advisory released Sunday. Gridlocks were also observed on major corridors, including Outer Ring Road (Panchsheel Enclave-Greater Kailash), Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg, JB Tito Marg, Inder Mohan Bhardwaj Marg, and CR Park Main Road. Traffic police said restrictions will remain in force till Oct 2 between 4pm and midnight. Despite multiple flyovers, it took me 23 extra minutes - this is the state of traffic in the national capital." "Reaching Alaknanda near CR Park is impossible due to Durga Puja traffic," posted another commuter. The situation worsened in central Delhi too on Monday evening, likely due to the inauguration of the BJP Delhi Pradesh headquarters at Pocket 05, DDU Marg. Around 4pm, traffic was barred on DDU Marg between ITO Chowk and Minto Road in both directions, with additional diversions in place till 8pm on Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, IP Marg, JLN Marg, Minto Road, Ranjeet Singh flyover, Mirdard Road and adjoining stretches. "Barricades were there at ITO signal. Was stuck at signal near Supreme Court for 20 mins," said Rajat, a commuter caught in the jam.
