Gangster Ghaywal faces another case for using forged number plate on scooter | Pune News - The Times of India

Pune: The Kothrud police on Monday registered a case of cheating and forgery against gangster Nilesh alias Nilya Ghaywal for using a fake registration number on his scooter. The number plate displayed a registration number that actually belongs to an SUV owned by Sagar Bandgar (37), a farmer from Indapur in Pune rural, police said.Bandgar filed a complaint with the Kothrud police, who have since seized Ghaywal's scooter as part of the investigation.Deputy commissioner of police (Zone III) Sambhaji Kadam said, "We seized the scooter and checked its registration number plate, which did not match with the scooter as the record of the vehicle registration showed it as an SUV. We then traced the SUV owner, who happened to be a farmer from Indapur." The police said Ghaywal was in London. "We have already invoked charges of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against Ghaywal and his five gang members and others involved in the two cases of attempted murders," the police said.Ghaywal gang members opened fire at a private firm employee near the Kothrud police station and later assaulted a student (19) with billhooks on Sept 19. Five Ghaywal gang members have been arrested."Ghaywal left Pune after the Ganeshotsav. He is in London," Kadam said, adding, "We have questioned his family members and others in this regard," he said. A lookout circular was issued against the gangster on Friday. "The inquiry of how he obtained the passport from Ahilyanagar, despite having criminal cases against him, is still going on. The Ahilyanagar police cleared his verification in 2019 and then he got the passport," Kadam added.
