Postfloods: Railways to resume 16 Jammu Tawi trains from Oct 1

Srinagar, Sept 29: In a major relief for passengers, Northern Railways has announced the full restoration of 16 train services from Jammu Tawi (JAT), which were suspended following breaches in the JAT section. This marks the fourth phase of the restoration plan and will come into effect starting October 1. According to railway officials, the resumption will begin with Train No. 15653 (Guwahati-Jammu Tawi) running from October 1, followed by Train No. 12470 (JAT-Kanpur) and Train No. 15097 (Bhagalpur-Jammu Tawi) on October 2. Other important trains will resume in the following days. The list of restored services includes key long-distance trains such as Train No. 12469 (Kanpur-JAT) and Train No. 14692 (JAT-Barauni) from October 3, Train No. 12588 (JAT-Gorakhpur) from October 4, Train No. 14606 (JAT-YogNagriRishikesh) from October 5, and Train No. 22317 (Sealdah-JAT) from October 6. Return journeys on these routes are scheduled up to October 8. Railway authorities said the restoration marks a major step toward normalizing train operations after weeks of disruption. Earlier, dozens of passenger and express trains were cancelled or diverted due to the breaches, causing significant inconvenience to commuters and long-distance travelers. UchitSinghal, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (SDCM) told Rising Kashmir that it is indeed good news for railway passengers. With the resumption of these services, connectivity across northern and eastern India via Jammu Tawi will improve significantly," he said. Uchit added that the restoration work is being carried out in phases to ensure safety and smooth functioning of the network. "Passenger convenience and safety remain our highest priority, and efforts are being made to normalize services at the earliest," Singhal said. The fourth phase of restoration is expected to provide major relief to travelers heading towards Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Assam, and Uttarakhand, with Jammu once again connected through some of the busiest rail routes of the region. Earlier in 1 week of September, the disruption was triggered by the recent devastating floods in Jammu, which caused damage to railway tracks and infrastructure in several stretches. The heavy rainfall and flooding had affected connectivity, forcing the Railways to suspend or divert services until safety checks and repair works were completed.
