Guwahati: Zubeen Garg's wife, Garima, on Monday said she wants to know what exactly happened that led to his death in Singapore on Sept 19 despite the presence of manager Siddharth Sharma, drummer Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, and North East India Festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta and why she was kept in the dark after the incident.She said, "I did not understand how Shyamkanu Mahanta treated Zubeen in Singapore. Neither security was provided, nor was there any medical assistance for Zubeen. There was also no proper arrangement for his accommodation."Garima added that everyone present, including Shekhar and Siddharth, should not have taken Zubeen to the sea and let him go for a swim, considering how exhausted he was. "Siddharth had complete responsibility to stop Zubeen," she said.Siddharth, Shekhar, and a few people from the Assamese association in Singapore were present on the yacht on Sept 19. Zubeen allegedly died while swimming in the sea. He went to Singapore on Sept 17 and was scheduled to perform at the North East India Festival on the evening of Sept 20.Expressing her faith in the Indian law and judiciary, Garima said, "I hope the matter will be taken up with utmost importance. People of the state want justice. I want to know what exactly happened in Singapore, which led to Zubeen's death."She said she spoke to Zubeen over the phone on Sept 18 and was unaware of any plan for a party on the yacht. "Zubeen would have told me in excitement if any such party was planned because he always liked such things. After the conversation, I saw videos on social media where he was seen singing Eric Clapton and Will Jennings's ballad 'Tears in Heaven'," she added.However, the next day, she managed to speak to Siddharth over the phone once about an accident Zubeen met with. Garima said she could not reach anyone over the phone to know what happened to Zubeen thereafter. "Afater this, one after another videos related to Zubeen's death surfaced on the social media, and no one present with Zubeen gave me any information," Garima added.Garima said there was no discussion regarding her accompanying Zubeen on his Singapore trip. "Moreover, there were lots of family issues as my father-in-law as well as my parents were not well. There was a plan that Zubeen would return on Sept 21, and thereafter, we would begin the remaining work of his film 'Roi Roi Binale'. Zubeen was scheduled for several programmes during Durga Puja. So, we had travel plans accordingly from Sept 28."Talking about his professional life, Garima said he never allowed her interference in his professional career. "Accordingly, I never tried to interfere or enter his professional life. I never knew about the remuneration Zubeen used to take for a programme and about his agreements," she added.She further said people across the state, irrespective of caste, community, religion, and language, stood under the same umbrella on his death. "A society above division based on caste, community, religion, and language was his dream, and I wish the state remains the same," she added.Last Saturday, Garima had filed an FIR with the CID seeking a proper investigation into Zubeen's death. Prior to this, 55 FIRs were filed at different police stations across the state against Shyamkanu, Siddharth and Shekhar. Following this, the SIT headed by CID special DG MP Gupta issued summons to Shyamkanu, Shekhar, Siddharth and 10 others and asked them to appear before the SIT by Oct 6.
