New Delhi: The father-son duo, accused in the murder of Lakhpat Singh Kataria, has confessed to killing the Congress worker, who was chased around a park, thrashed with a cricket bat and then shot dead in south Delhi's Begumpur in Malviya Nagar. During questioning, the son, absolving his father, claimed he was the one who shot Kataria, having witnessed his father's prolonged suffering and loss of dignity during nine months of confinement to bed. The father, Khushi Ram, meanwhile, told cops he was responsible for the murder, stating the act was inflicted out of revenge. Police sources said both suspects attempted to take sole responsibility during separate and joint questioning sessions. The boy has been sent to a reform home, while the father remains in police custody.In another development, the teams searched in Outer Delhi area for the weapon the suspects claimed to have discarded on the road while fleeing the scene. During the inquiry, it was found that the accused filed an FIR against Kataria in 2016 following a brawl over property which, he claimed, left him bedridden. The son was just nine years old at the time. The duo nurtured the grudge for years and reportedly attacked Kataria last week. Police said the accused planned the attack on Kataria a day before his son's 18th birthday to ensure that juvenile laws would still protect him.
