New Delhi: A Delhi court acquitted a man accused of cruelty for dowry, after his wife committed suicide in 2021, observing that the prosecution failed to prove the charges. Pointing out that the woman did not leave a suicide note from which it could be inferred that she was subjected to cruelty, additional sessions judge Sheetal Chaudhary Pradhan said all the witnesses, including her parents and siblings, did not depose anything that could indicate that the deceased was subjected to dowry demand, and their testimony does not inspire confidence. The court was hearing the case against the husband, Bilal Adam, against an FIR was registered under BNS sections 498A (Husband or his relative subjecting woman to cruelty) and 304B (Dowry death). TNN
