Vijayawada, Sep 29 (UNI) The flood situation of the river Krishna is grim as the inflow has increased and the flood water entered into villages in Repalle mandal. The inflow at Prakasam barrage across the river Krishna here on Monday is over 6.86 lakh cusecs. Officials said that 69 crest gates of Prakasam barrage were lifted to discharge the water downstream into the sea. The officials issued a second warning signal at Prakasam barrage. The Beram park, located on the bank of the river Krishna here, is inundated by the flood water forcing the officials to restrict entry into the area. All the ferries of the Tourism department were anchored and tied to poles as a precautionary measure. The officials banned having holy dips by the devotees in the river following heavy inflow to the river. The Penumudi, Pallapalem and other villages were inundated by the Krishna river flood water in Repalle mandal in Bapatla district. The officials shifted the villagers to the relief camps. Revenue Minister Anagani Satya Prasad reviewed the flood situation with the officials. He directed the officials to alert the villagers of vulnerable villages in Repalle and Vemuru mandals. The Minister also directed the officials to ensure that the embankment of the river Krishna would not breach at anywhere and take precautionary measures. As roads leading to several island villages, located in Kolluru. Bhattiprolu and Repalle mandals submerged in the flood water, the road connectivity was cut off to the villages. The villagers told the media that the low level bridges, which were constructed several decades ago, on the roads leading to their villages, are submerged in the floodwater every season, disrupting road connectivity to their villages. They urged the Government to construct new bridges. Meanwhile the flood water in the river Godavari started receding. The officials said that over 9 lakh cusecs of water was being released downstream into the sea at the Dowleswaram barrage near Rajahmundry. Several island villages including Kanakayalanka, Ayodya Lanka, Marrimoola, Koderu Lana, Pedamallanka, Burugulanka, Arigelavaripet, Udumudi Lana, G Pedapudi Lanka, Veeravallipalem, Ainavilli Lanka and Addanki villages were surrounded by the Godavari flood water and villagers are coming out of the villages on mechanized boats.
