Gurgaon: Tension simmered in Indana village of Nuh on Saturday after a police raid to investigate a case of vehicle thefts from Punjab escalated into violence. The confrontation resulted in several policemen being injured after being pelted with stones, shots being fired, and multiple vehicles damaged.According to officials, the incident occurred around 11.30am when a joint team of the Tauru and Punhana CIA units raided the house of Azad, a former councillor and main accused. As soon as Azad spotted the approaching cops, he allegedly fired at them, narrowly missing constable Sameer. He fled the scene, btu his wife was caught in the scuffle.The situation deteriorated rapidly as Azad's alarm drew villagers to the scene. Armed with stones, sticks, and firearms, the crowd confronted police. Several cops suffered injuries during the attack, and police vehicles were vandalised."As the villagers gathered, they began pelting the cops with stones and attacking them with lathis and firearms. This forced the police team to respond defensively," a police official said. A case was registered at the Bichhor police station under a host of serious charges, including rioting, unlawful assembly, attempt to murder, assault on public servants, escape from custody, criminal conspiracy, and voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons. Provisions of the Arms Act and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act were also invoked.The FIR mentioned 30 people, with an additional 50 to 60 unidentified villagers implicated in the violence. Among those named were Azad and his associates Shahid and Shahrukh, as well as Wajid, Yusuf, Fajeen, Hafiz, Nasir, Shaukeen, and Yunus. The complaint also listed several women, including Naima (wife of Arshid), Shahina (wife of Azad), and Najma (wife of Javed).According to police, one of the accused allegedly fired at the cops with a rifle, while another used a country-made gun. Police responded by firing warning shots in the air in an attempt to disperse the crowd. The villagers allegedly blocked the road with an excavator, complicating efforts to restore order. In the aftermath, 13 villagers were arrested. They were Shaukeen, Yunus, Javed, Nasir, Hafiz, Rehan, Mustaq, Azharuddin, Yusuf, Wajid, Naima, Shahina, and Najma. While three women were remanded in judicial custody, the remaining 10 men are currently on remand. Cops recovered a pistol and five live rounds from the scene.DSP Jitender Rana assured that strict action would be taken against those who were responsible for attacking the cops and damaging govt property."Police teams are actively searching for Azad, Shahid, Shahrukh, and others named in the FIR.
