New-Delhi/Leh: Activist Sonam Wangchuk has been arrested after the protestors demanding Ladakh's statehood and Sixth Schedule status. The violent left four people dead and 90 injured in the Union Territory. He has been charged under the stringent National Security Act (NSA), government sources said, which provides for long preventive detention without any scope for bail. Wangchuk was taken into custody at 2:30 pm by a police team led by Ladakh Police chief S D Singh Jamwal earlier in the day and later shifted to Jodhpur. He has been kept in a high-security cell with round-the-clock CCTV surveillance. Wangchuk's arrest comes amid chaos over the recent protests in Leh, where the protesters have been demanding statehood for Ladakh, among other things. The protests turned violent in Leh on September 24, following which the BJP office in the area was set on fire. The Union territory administration has also snapped mobile internet services in the Leh area as a precautionary measure.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has launched an investigation into three cases of violence in Manipur, including the abduction and killing of six women and children from the State's Jiribam district on November 11.
