New Delhi: Chief minister Rekha Gupta on Friday launched a rooftop solar power system, a modern fire station and a new power substation, highlighting the govt's push for clean energy and infrastructure development. In Rithala, Gupta launched the installation of the solar power systems on 1,000 govt buildings, calling it a step towards making "govt buildings the identity of an energy self-reliant Delhi". The project aims to generate 55 MW of clean energy.The newly installed 25-kilowatt solar system at the Delhi Jal Board building in Rithala will generate over 28,000 units of clean energy annually, said Gupta. Power Minister Ashish Sood, also present at the event, said the rooftop solar initiative will not only save Rs 2-3 lakh each year but also contribute to Delhi's environmental goals. The initiative is part of a larger solarisation plan targeting a total capacity of 5.5 MW across govt buildings, with the potential to produce over 6 million units of electricity annually and reduce CO₂ emissions by more than 4,200 tonnes. Rooftop solar is now mandatory for all govt buildings with areas over 500 square metres. Indraprastha Power Generation Company Limited has been designated as the nodal agency. Gupta also laid the foundation stone for a 66 kV grid substation in Mubarakpur Dabas, which will serve 16 feeder areas including Karala, ensuring uninterrupted power supply. "Our govt is continuously working on clean energy," she said. In Narela, the CM inaugurated a modern fire station, spread over 1,000 square metres. The facility will cater to Ghoga, Lampur Border, Bankner, Sinhola, Singhu Border and Narela village. Earlier in the day, CM Gupta also attended the annual day and prize distribution ceremony at Deen Dayal Upadhyaya (DDU) College. Gupta urged students to embrace Hindi and promote swadeshi products to help build a developed India by 2047. "This college has faced many challenges -- teachers went months without salaries. I will ensure no work here is stalled due to lack of funds," she said.
